Music Lessons

Welcome to my studio page! With over 15 years of experience, I’ve taught private lessons in piano, cello, organ, and guitar. My approach to teaching is simple: I personalize the lesson experience to each student. Everyone is unique in how they absorb and process information. This is as true for a 7 year old as it is for a 70 year old. My goal as a teacher is to help my students discover how they learn, plan goals with them, and mostly, help them enjoy making music.

FAQs

  • How do I begin lessons? Easy! Send me an email at jtrucano@icloud.com. Once we find a time that works, we can either ‘jump right in’ or meet for a free 20 minute consultation.

  • How much are lessons and how do I pay? I charge $36/half hour; $72/hour. Most students take 30 minute lessons, although there are options for 45 and 60 minute lessons as well. My preferred payment platform is Venmo - but cash and checks are also an option. Students/families can opt to pay weekly, monthly, or whatever works best for them. With each student, I create an online Google Doc ‘lesson book’ that helps us log when we’ve had lessons, as well as provide practice assignments for the coming week.

  • Where are lessons held?

    • In-person: Westminster Presbyterian Church in downtown Minneapolis

      • 1200 Marquette Ave S; Minneapolis, MN 55403

      • FREE underground parking available

    • Online: Zoom

      • Only available to piano and cello students

  • What ages do you teach? I teach student of all ages as long as they have a willingness and desire to learn! My studio has been a mix of adult and K-12 learners. I generally don’t take students younger than 4, but there have been exceptions.

  • Which teaching curriculum do you use? I use the Faber & Faber Piano Adventures Series and the *Suzuki Cello School Lesson Books. For organ students, we will work together to find the appropriate repertoire/method!

  • Cancellations? I know that life can be unexpected so I try to be flexible regarding missed lessons and rescheduling. If it becomes a recurring issue, I reserve the right to charge for any missed or cancelled lesson with less than 24 hours notice.

  • If you have more questions, don’t hesitate to reach out at jtrucano@icloud.com.

*I do not teach using the Suzuki Method, but for those interested, I highly recommend AUSTE.
